Go High Level: What It Does, How We Use It & Can It Power Your Agency To 7 Figures Fast?

I have been using Go High Level for 2 years now. It has changed my business and my life.

5 years ago I started my agency, born out of the belief I could do better for myself and my clients than the daily struggle of working, agency side for a corporate in London.

Things were good and I got comfortable. But then the cracks appeared. I had some churn and replacing work was hard. I had nothing to set me apart…

That’s when, by chance I found Go High Level

At first, what they offered seemed ridiculous to contemplate. It was offering to replace ALL the software that ate up my margins at a fraction of the price, and all in one place; without complicated integrations.

But…

You didn’t come here for my story. You came to find out if this was worth a shot.

So, as a real power user of High Level, here is my honest review. It might not be right for some people, but for others, it can move mountains.

If you find this guide useful and wish to sign up, it’s with total transparency that I tell you that High Level will pay me a small commission for helping you learn about them and how they can help you. Your price will not increase, and if you need any guidance after starting your trail, you are free to contact me and my team.

Go HighLevel Overview

Go High Level is an ‘agency only’ sales and marketing automation tool. It’s built entirely with agencies in mind to help them service their clients. I have spoken to their CEO Shaun, many times and he is downright hellbent on making this the one stop shop for agencies.

Here are the features that Go High Level has that I will be breaking down.

  • The Dashboard
  • The Conversations Tab
  • The Kanban Opportunities Tab
  • The Marketing Tab
  • Campaigns
  • Bulk requests
  • Trigger links
  • Form builder
  • Survey builder
  • SMS and email templates
  • HTML builder

  • Facebook Ads reporting
  • Attribution reporting
  • Call tracking and reporting

The Go HighLevel Dashboard

After signing and configuring your agency settings alongside your twilio & mailgun integrations, you’ll be asked to create your first account.

Once that is done you will see your client's dashboard. This is a well-thought-out overview of everything happening within that account at a glance including your total opportunities and pipeline value, a lead source report as well as what is at what stage in your pipeline alongside reporting on Google/Facebook Ads and GMB stats.

In my opinion, a fine overview of the accounts health.

Pros: A fantastic place for clients and agency staff to see results at a glance.

Cons: Can feel useless if your client isn’t keeping it updated

The Go HighLevel Conversations Tab

Imagine your email inbox, but with inbound/outbound calls and SMS, all logged within the same conversation tree per client. Now imagine showing your client the conversations that you have help to generate and organise for them to help them close deals.

With the powerful ability to send and receive email and SMS from this inbox, it creates a simple and unified way for your clients to communicate with their leads and customers.

PROS: A game changer for businesses who value seeing all client communication in once place and those who can warm leads to close via SMS.

CONS: It can be hard to understand when leads reply as they are bolted to the snet email. Hopefully one GHL will fix soon.

The Go HighLevel Opportunities Tab

This kanban style pipeline stage system allows you to create as many pipelines and pipeline stage as you wish. Clients to can easily move opportunities between stages either manually or via trigger based automation, update notes and assign deal values, totalled up above each column

PROS: One of the most powerful parts of GHL in my opinion. Its easy for clients to understand and visualise their pipeline and can help agencies showcase their worth.

CONS: None really. It may be useful to see more client information at a glance.

The Go HighLevel Marketing Tab

Campaigns - This is HUGE! It’s where you can build out your nurturing campaigns.

Go HighLevel provide INSANE options here including:

  • Email
  • SMS
  • Voicedrops
  • Calls
  • Messenger
  • Webhooks
  • Manual actions

Also worth noting that in most standard cases, the email and SMS also tracks open and click/replies rates. Crazy good!

  • Bulk Request - This is the action whereby you can send mass people into specific campaigns manually. Kinda like Mailchimp etc. Simple build you campaign out, as above, and then add your list according to specifics tags.
  • Trigger Links - Again, a very useful way to create link redirects that you can use through your campaigns to track when a user has clicked that link and therefore create actions off the back of that.
  • Form & Survey Builder - Create webforms and surveys directly in High Level that you can use in High Levels own website and funnel builder (more on that later) and also embed on your own websites via Javascript. These obviously all feed nativeky into the CRM and can trigger certain campaigns etc.
  • SMS & Email Templates - Does your client send the same email time and time again. Create templates that can be triggered from a couple of clicks.
  • HTML builder - Build HTML email templates natively and use them with the campaigns noted above instead of standard emails.

The Go HighLevel Reporting Tab

Google Ads Reporting - See basic stats for you Google Ads campaigns. This is very much much limited to search.

  • Facebook Ads Reporting and results

I’m excited about the above, not because of the feature itself (because it needs a lot of work) but because with the use of UTM strings, you can show exactly where each leads came from.

  • Attributions reporting - This is a new feature and effectively, if use correctly can literally shows your service based clients what sources/campaigns/Keywords and audiences are driving ACTUAL SALES & REVENUE, not just leads. And that is MASSIVE! It can surge results and help you scale up campaigns (and fees)

  • The call tab - GHL has it’s own call tracking & recording features (think callrail, call tracking metrics, response tap, infinity), meaning you can swap out numbers and track inbound calls back to the keyword and the exact client, again helping to gauge the effectiveness of certain channels

PROS: The very fact that attribution back to the sale is involved here and you can save 100s on expensive call tracking services should be enough for you to get your wallet out right now. That is game changing for SMBs

CONS: The reporting options for ads is a bit shite. It needs a lot of work. Something for the future I feel when GHL have room to prioritise it.

The Go HighLevel Scheduling Tab

This was a MAJOR factor in us getting our hands on this platform. Our clients at the time were mainly in financial service and wanted to generate booked appointments. Go HighLevel have built in their very own calendar widget (think calendly) that syncs with GSuite and soon 365 that enables both leads and users to book appointments in individual or team calendars. These can be embedded on GHL pages or your own website and hooked up to reminder campaigns. Very powerful.

The tab has two sections:

  • Calendar - This shows a weekly calendar view of appointments

  • Appointments - This shows a list of appointments with the data.

PROS: Enable your clients to get booked appointments on autopilot.

CONS: Doesn’t yet sync with 365.

The Go HighLevel Reviews Tab

Such an important feature, especially for local businesses who tend through thrive on referrals and reviews. Go High Level allows you to connect your clients Google My Business page and both automate and manually trigger requests for reviews from your clients customers. So powerful

Not only that, when reviews pop in, you can respond to reviews directly from the platform. Boom!

PROS: Provide an invaluable service to your clients that gets them organic customers

CONS: Erm…. Only that it doesn’t integrate with other platforms, yet, but you can still link out to Trustpilot, reviews.io or any other.

The Go HighLevel Contacts Tab

This is effectively your client's CRM. It contains an infinitely easy way to filter leads and display all the info at a glance. Click on any name and you’ll see a full record for the lead including their information, the communication history and the activity and task management for that lead.

PROS: Infinitely filterable and enables you to manage everything for that lead in one place.

CONS: Doesn’t yet allow for file uploads for that client.

Go HighLevel Funnels & Websites

I could write another epic guide on this (note to self). A while back GHL had a big launch. They had built a system that allowed its users to build landing page funnels (think instapage, unbounce, clickfunnels) from within the platform that connected with their forms, surveys, appointment calendars & their two step checkout (stripe).

This is MASSIVE for agencies. It allows you to use your understanding of conversion rate optimisation and take control of your clients landing pages to deliver better results and improve your chances of increasing your fees, either through charging directly for pages, or through increases in % of spend media payment models.

PROS: Better results/more control/more fees

CONS: It’s not as advanced as say, unbounce but is very simple to build

Go HighLevel Memberships

Similar to funnels and websites, memberships allows you to build out paid courses (think Kajabi, thinkific, teachable). If you work with course builders, coaches or consultants, this is the perfect solution to provide a service based solution to help them get started & scale.

PROS: Easy to use

CONS: In it’s infancy. Advanced creators would be better off on a more advanced platform

Go HighLevel Triggers

Triggers are the ‘if this, then that’ mechanism that controls all the automation. For example

IF form1 submitted THEN add to campaign1, assign user, send an email, add to pipeline etc

The Go HighLevel Integrations

GHL natively integrates with

  • Google Analytics/Ads
  • Google My Business
  • Facebook Ads/Page
  • Quickbooks
  • Clio
  • Stripe
  • Zapier

It also passes all information out via webhook so you can build complex integrations with other platforms.

PROS: The Google My Business integration is a massive win for you and your clients. It's so under rated, especially by paid media agencies

CONS: The FB integration is patchy and needs re-connecting a lot. Hopefully one to fix in future.

Go HighLevel At The Agency Level

Being that it is an agency tool, GHL allows admin users to toggle between client accounts easily. Outside of this and the standard agency settings (which allows for a complete/true whitelabel) it has one incredible features. One that allows agencies to scale FAST.

Snapshots - GHL snapshots is simply a ‘make a copy’ button. Because campaigns and triggers can all be built using merge tags, snapshots allow you to recreate an ENTIRE sub account with just afew clicks.

If you are a niche agency, of primary focus on 2 or 3 industries, snapshots mean that you can package up your offer, demo the product they will get and onboard clients in minutes, freeing you up to sell more and focus on other parts of your business.

It’s worth noting that Go High Level also has a market place that handles all the fulfilment of new clients you bring on board, from managing ads to custom funnel builds. Worthwhile if you want to focus purely on sales.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does High level have hidden costs?

No… but it does require a MailGun account and a Twilio account which does have other costs dependent on usage. You have the option here to pay for it yourself and factor this in to your sales cost or have the client sign up to these services themself.

There are other packages now available and there is the obvious marketplace should you wish to get help with fulfilment.

What is the support like?

I was actually blown away by the support. It’s not exactly as systemised as most SAAS businesses, but the founders, Shaun, Robin & Varun never seem to sleep and are often floating around on their Facebook group answering questions. I personally have had several calls with Shaun, who has proactively ask me to jump on a call with him. I rate the support highly

Can I really make money?

100%. In fact there are businesses often highlighted that ONLY resell Go High Level and pull in 10,000s every month. If you sell PPC or SEO, you already know how hard that is. Having a bolt on system that help clients close deals is HUGE and will help you stand out from the crowd.

How easy is this platform to use?

Good question; It certainly is getting more complex, but that is because the features being added come thick and fast. If you are fairly technical, have a good understanding of marketing and have used email/SMS/marketing automation before, it’ll probably take you a week to get the basics down. From there, you’ll only get better

It’s worth noting too, that if you sign up through our link, we will provide you with some templates you can use to get started.

What did we use it for?

  • Building Better Landing Pages

A lot of our Facebook and Google Ads clients had poor converting websites and it was hard to convince them to change their pages as this would 9/10 times cost them money. So we built them landing pages, which upped their results and helped our retention rates.

  • We got them booked appointments

Many of our clients were in Financial services or industries that liked booked appointments. Using GHLs appointment calendar on the thank you pages and in follow up email/SMS campaigns, we were able to turn initial form fills into booked appointments which convert far higher than standard leads.

  • We tracked their inbound calls

GHLs tracking platform meant we could dump complex systems like Call Tracking Metrics/ Call Rail and keep everything in one place for the client to see and listen to. We pushed the data into Google Ads and had call tracking.

  • We got clients reviews

Clients love getting good reviews. It validates their work and helps get more organic enquiries. The platform becomes addictive!

How Does It Compare To Other Platforms?

The most similar platform is ClickFunnels, and in my opinion, GHL wins hands down. Why

It’s build just for agencies - No businesses allow

  • It’s crazy value for money
  • There are better native integrations
  • The funnel speeds are faster
  • They have better support
  • There SMS features are amazing

Sad to say, but ClickFunnels has dropped the ball slightly and Go High Level picked it up and are running. I love Brunson and his tribe/content, but GHL wins for me.
